Frequently Asked Questions |
Do I need a partner to dance? You don't need a partner at all for Line Dancing or Latin in Line. For Ballroom and Latin you will need a partner but it is not essential to bring one with you as we will try and put people together within the class. This is, of course, dependent on who we have in each class so we can't guarantee to find you a partner. Thus if you can bring one for Ballroom and Latin, so much the better. Do I have to pay for a whole set of classes up front? No, you simply pay at each class - i.e. Pay As You Go. What if I've missed the first class or few classes - can I catch up or do I have to wait until the next new class begins? You can start part way through a course but it is not ideal. If you've only missed the first week or two then don't worry, you can catch up, especially if you have danced before. However, everyone is different so please contact WDC for a chat. Remember, we can always arrange a Private Tuition class to give you a boost to bring you up to the same level as the rest of the class. I've danced before and would like to get back into it; what's the best way? This very much depends on what you have danced, where and for how long. Thus it is very specific to you. The best option is to contact Worcester Dance Centre to discuss details. Can I come to a Social dance if I haven't been dancing for very long?Absolutely yes! Everyone is welcome at all the Social Dances and Events, no matter what their dancing ability. Just get up and give it a go! Which is the best Style of dancing for me to try if I haven't danced before? You can choose any of the Dance Styles as your class will be tailored to your ability / experience and that of your classmates. I'd love to start taking classes but I'm nervous about dancing in a class / with other people, how can you help me?First of all - don't worry - everyone at the classes is friendly (the teachers don't bite !!) so your nerves should be quickly calmed when you start. If you really don't want to dance in a mixed class, Worcester Dance Centre can arrange Private Lessons for you. Contact Worcester Dance Centre for further details. Do I need any special shoes or equipment to dance?Just like any sport, dancing does use some special equipment - normally proper dance shoes - but you can get started without these if you wish. Proper dance shoes will help, especially for Ballroom and Latin, but they are not essential to start with. Just make sure you wear something you can move freely in (e.g. tight jeans won't help) and try to avoid trainers - they make your feet stick to the floor too much. You'll probably want to use appropriate dance shoes once you gain experience and again Worcester Dance Centre can help with a comprehensive Dance Shop of shoes and accessories. You can also speak to your teacher or contact Worcester Dance Centre for further details. How long does it take to learn to dance? As with any new skill, you can take a class / course of a specific length but you can then go on with your new skill / learning for the rest of your life if you wish. What will I get out of dancing? Many things including great physical exercise, fun, new friendships, a new skill that can really impress and mental exercise. Dancing really can add that extra something to your life. If you are already part of a couple, it's something you can do together too. Do I need to be really fit to dance? No, as long as you can stand up and have no major medical conditions that would prevent you from taking part then you are fit enough to dance. You won't be pushed to do more than you can handle physically. Dancing will help you to get fit - the more you do, the fitter you will become. If you are in any doubt, please contact your Doctor before participating. We are planning our wedding and would like to be able to do our first dance with confidence - can you help?Yes, definitely. You can use the WDC Wedding Dance service to help you choose, plan and learn your dance for your Big Day. Note: the further ahead you plan this the better! Isn't it all fake tan and sequins though?Errr no, not really. The film Strictly Ballroom kind of gave that impression but it was a bit of a send-up of the Ballroom and Latin competitive scene to be honest. OK, in the competition world there will be fake tan and yes, even some sequins - although a lot less these days than in the early 80's when Strictly Ballroom came out ! - but you won't need them for Classes, Social Dances or Events at Worcester Dance Centre (unless you want to of course...). What are the postal charges and returns policy for the WDC Dancewear Shop? Please see the WDC Dancewear Shop for terms and conditions. end faqDo I need a partner to dance? You don't need a partner at all for Line Dancing or Latin in Line.
